Saltillo – Mary Lou Griffin Vanlandingham, 87, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018
at her daughter’s home after a lengthy illness. She was born on January 03,1931 to Elmer and Dera Griffin of Calhoun, MS.
Mary Lou married the love of her life, Oren Vanlandingham on August 09, 1946. Because of military service they moved to Champaign, Illinois. Mary continued her high school education there, before moving back to Calhoun City, during her last semester of her senior year to graduate with her fellow classmates, the class of 1948 Calhoun City High School.
Mary was a housewife and a stay at home mother for most of her life. She was active leader of the Girls of America in Calhoun City. After the family moved to Saltillo, MS, she began to serve in the First United Methodist Church of Saltillo. Through the years she served as a nursery worker, Methodist United Women and on the Holy Communion Committee.
She loved to bake, sew, work in the garden and go fishing. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother. She also loved her church and was faithful to visit the shut-ins and take baked goods to them.

Private funeral services will be held at Waters Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 04, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Bro. Tim Green officiating. Burial will be in Jones Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery on hwy 6 East in Nettleton, MS.

She is survived by a son, Douglas Vanlandingham (Debbie Sue) of Guntown, MS; (2) daughters, Kay Pearce (Randy) of Mooreville, MS and Marsha Jackson (Kirby) of Nettleton, MS; (6) grandchildren, Craig Pearce (Jean) of Mooreville, Kevin Vanlandingham (Staci) of Oxford, Brad Vanlandingham (Amy) of Guntown, Kristi Tutor (Jeremy) of Mooreville, Leslie Cheek (Bradley) and Lindsey Kyle (Joseph) all of Nettleton; (11) greatgrandchildren, Rob Winters, LeighElla, Lyla, Luke, Reese and Brooks Vanlandingham, Jackson and Haley Cheek, Jolie, Jay and Jep Kyle; several nieces and nephews; (3) very special friends, Charlotte Coggins and Shirley Roberts of Saltillo and Juanita Farrar of Mantachie and a very special caregiver, Dee Jones of Tupelo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 70 years, Oren Vanlandingham; sister, Stella Griffin of Calhoun City, MS; (2) brothers, Eldon Griffin of Calhoun City, MS and Paul Griffin of Greenville, MS; grandson, Steven Van Pearce of Mooreville, MS.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Craig Pearce, Kevin and Brad Vanlandingham; grand son-in-laws, Jeremy Tutor, Bradley Cheek and Joseph Kyle.

Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Rob Winters, Brooks and Luke Vanlandingham, Jackson Cheek, Jay and Jep Kyle.
