William Ross Pannell
Guntown- William Ross Pannell 95, passed away on November 18, 2018 at the NMMC Hospice Unit. He was born to Sam and Laura Pannell in Union County, MS on Feb. 12,1923 and married Mary Nell Carlock Pannell to Jan. 17, 1947. He retired from Columbian Rope and he enjoyed gardening, officiating basketball, football and baseball games for many years. He was an avid sports fan and a dedicated fan of his favorite team, St. Louis Cardinals. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart Medal while serving with the U.S. Army, 34th Inf. Division in North Africa and in Italy in 1943. He was a member of the Assembly of God.

Funeral services will be held at Waters Funeral Home on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Merle Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery.

He is survived by two sons, Eddie Pannell and Dwight Pannell both of Guntown; (4) grandchildren, Chris Pannell (Natisha) of Mooreville, Bentley Pannell (Haley) of Mantachie, Tabitha Gillentine (Pate) of Baldwyn and Cecily McLarty of Mooreville; (8) greatgrandchildren, Conner Pannell, Ty Pannell, Lincoln Pannell, Lana Bailey, Mason Gillentine, Peyton McLarty, Libby Kingsley and Levi Kingsley.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nell Carlock Pannell; (4) brothers, Herman Pannell, Joe Pannell, Dee Pannell and Houston Pannell; (4) sisters, Attie Lindley, Lizzy McDonald, Toy Hall and Winnie Williams.

His grandchildren and greatgrandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be at Waters Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Walton and the staff at NMMC Hospice Care Unit and Diversicare Rehab.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that all donations be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.
